Awwww, yeah.Anybody who’s an “Old School Music Savvy Mom” buddy will remember the Guest DJ Shuffles I used to do over there.
They were, afterall, the stuff of legend. From titans to newbies in the “bloggers who are also Moms” world – all were welcome to put their music libraries on “shuffle” and share with us the top ten that came up. Good, bad, embarrassing – it got posted.
Music. It’s the great equalizer.
And, when folks added their own commentary, it got even better! Some were so much fun, they came back and shuffled twice! So I thought it only fitting to kick them off again here with a veteran shuffler. The Lady of the House from Checking the Electrical Box is on deck.
Now, I’m reaching back to the way I originally introduced her, because I honestly can’t top it. Seriously – I’m a fairly adequate writer, (at least I flatter myself as such), but even on my best day I’d be hard pressed to capture the essence of T-LotH (her rapper name) as succinctly as her own words have done. The following was shamelessly copied from her Blogger Profile. To wit:
“About Me
I am a former latch key kid, stoner, fag hag, tv producer, turned suburban SAHM.
What did you dream when you ate a spider while sleeping?
Who is the fucktard who came up with these questions? Clearly they allow people to drop acid at Blogger

I dunno about y’all, but when I first read that, I got a lil’ bloggy crush on TLofH. (Wait – let’s just call her T-Loth. It’ll be her rapper name.)
I was concerned, however, that perhaps she’d blown all her quirky witicisms on the profile…y’know, that her pool of humor may lack depth. After all, I’ve had crushes dashed this way before: fabulous Profile that was probably ghost written, because the tone of the actual blog bore little to no resemblance to it’s Profile-y goodness. My Google Reader is littered with the ghosts of blogcrushes past that made me victim to the ol’ Bait and Switch…
I needn’t have worried. From her logical, well thought out argument for the value and convenience of Sister Wives to her brave and moving P-p-p-poker Face reveal, she routinely sends me into paroxysms of laughter. I can relax now…this one’s a keeper.
For this, our inaugural Guest DJ Shuffle at The Music Mamas, she’s bravely letting us see her at her worst. She’s compiled a list of the Ten Most Embarrassing Songs on her iPod! Now, a few I couldn’t find on playlist.com and so have added video links. Enjoy, and I invite you all to follow her lead! Catch me on Twitter or Email and let me know you’re ready to shuffle.
(C’mon. You KNOW you want to…)
Hanson: This Time Around
Barry Manilow: Could It Be Magic
Really Rosie: Carol King
—————————–
Andy Gibb “Shadow Dancing” – In certain circles this is the farthest thing from embarrassing. Unfortunately to the rest of the world it means I’m a giant loser. I’m not totally sure what “shadow dancing” is but if it’s anything like “Puppetry of the Penis”, I’m down.
Ashley Simpson “Pieces of Me” – Seriously this may be the most underrated song of all time. Forget that it’s Ashley Simpson, which should be easy to do. It doesn’t matter where I am, I’ll loudly and badly sing this song.
Barry Manilow “Could It Be Magic” – I’m not shamed to say I love Barry Manilow. I specifically love this song because it IS magic. This is the only song where I can take him seriously as a man. It’s so intense and full of passion. I’m almost willing to overlook the fact that girlfriend’s broke in the schnoz.
Def Leppard “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – I don’t understand metal. The guys are titless versions of their girls. However, there’s something very sexual about the music. I especially love this song because it unleashes my inner skank. Def Leppard is the “just the tip” of metal.
Hanson “This Time Around” – I love Hanson. I’m not saying I’d do one of their kooky “Walks” but I’d wear a button. Not only do these guys have tons of talent but they also have 137 children between them. That’s a whole lotta Mmmmbopping.
REO Speedwagon “Roll With The Changes” – I have no idea why I like this song other than I just do. I don’t know or like any other REO Speedwagon songs. I don’t know. It’s weird. Maybe I was programmed.
Jordan Sparks “Battlefield” – I stopped watching American Idol after Kelly Clarkson so I’m not sure who Jordan Sparks is and I’ve no idea what we’re fighting for but I’m gonna go get my armor. I have middle class white Jewish rage and I’m not afraid to use it.
Huey Lewis and GWENYTH PALTROW!!! “Cruisin’ “ – I’d have to say this is the most offensive song on my ipod if for no other reason than I abhor Gwenyth Paltrow. She’s such a self righteous piece of shit but damn it when she sings this song I wanna be her. What can I say I used to have a thing for Huey Lewis. We can talk about that with the “Most Embarrassing Men I Want to Fuck” list.
**Then I had children which forced me to an entirely different level of bad taste.
Gummibar “I’m a Gummy Bear” – No I’m not mentally ill but by the end of this song you might be. I’ve no idea how I know about this masterpiece but I do. More importantly, so do my children. I’m pretty sure if you play it backwards it says, “Be an asshole to your parents. Leave poop in the toilet. Refuse to eat anything but sugar.” Proceed with caution.
Really Rosie “Really Rosie” -First of all, it’s CAROL KING! Why someone hasn’t taken this musical to Broadway is beyond me. I loved Really Rosie as a child and I’m thrilled to share it with my children. I could get really sentimental and talk about childhood wonderment but all I’ll say is Rosie is one hot mess!

I think we would have a great time on that new topic brought up by “Cruisin’”…just sayin’.
(P.S. I have that song on my iPod too. In fact, the entire Duets soundtrack. ZING!)
LOL … “Def Leppard is the “just the tip” of metal.” … made me snort coffee out of my nose. So funny! Great list, Fanfreakingtastic comments. Love it.

Mari´s last blog ..Automatic for the People
I may have to disassociate from you for liking Pieces of Me.
Angie [A Whole Lot of Nothing]´s last blog ..I’m sorry for my overzealousness
negative list, partner, I read many your stuff and this is actually the first thing i’ve ever really really disagreed by using. A number of the songs you overlooked are cross generational in addition to iconic. your current #10 and #7 shouldnt surface on here time period.
