Brendan James wears his heart on his sleeve

A great vibe permeates Brendan James’ self-titled second album. It’s upbeat at times, melancholy at others, and his piano-playing is always good listening. And I’m not the only person who likes it: Legendary singer-songwriter Carly Simon said he has “a voice that can change the world.”

The album debuted at No. 5 on the iTunes Pop Chart when it was released Tuesday, and with good reason.

With Brendan, what you hear is what he feels. “I have tried to write a little more abstractly, but I just can’t. You are what you are and my heart is on my sleeve. I am a romantic as well as an optimist … I think my songs have this heaviness meets romance meets positivity.”

My favorite cuts on the album are Different Kind of Love (“maybe what you need is a better kind of love, one that you could only dream, maybe it’ll take all the sorrow away, and then you’ll feel free”), Stupid for Your Love (click the title to grab it for free), Get It Right, and Your Beating Heart.

I’m definitely liking Brendan James … and listening on repeat. Watch the video for his first single, The Fall, below, then leave me a comment with your thoughts or any questions you have about Brendan. I’m planning another post about the man and his music.
