CC and the CMA’s

This past week I was watching the CMA’s and was once again blown away by the power of country music.

Country music isn’t the twang it used to be!

It was the amazing performance from Brad Paisley (who also snagged the entertainer of the year award) that really got me thinking…

“Turn it on, turn it up and sing along. This is real, this is your life, in a song”

\”This is Country\”
He’s right you know.  Country music is real and for me personally, there are many country songs that would be featured on the soundtrack of my life.

I mean really, Kenny Chesney is the reason I got divorced, CLEARLY, country music *speaks* to me.

(Strange for someone who still knows the words to “Gangstas Paradise” I know)

It was only a few years ago that I was watching the CMA’s when Sugarland performed a song that I could have sworn had been written about and for me.

When Jennifer Nettles belted out those words “Why don’t you stay” it was hard to breathe.

It was impossible not to face the music.

At the time, I was involved with a married man and I felt every single word of that song.

She was SO right, what was I doing?

Finally, facing the music meant just ending it with the married man, which I did.

There is no topic that country music can’t or won’t put into a song.

Even the ugly stuff nobody wants to sing about.  County musicians are remarkable story tellers and so genuine it’s hard not to feel the weight of the words.

Listen to Brooks & Dunn’s “I believe” and TRY not to get chills…it’s just that powerful and that well done.

Although all of the performances on this years CMA’s were outstanding, I really have to give props to Carrie Underwood with her “Mama’s Song” (like that song isn’t everything you hope you’ll hear from your own daughter one day–tearjerker!) and Reba who did a kickass rendition of Beyonce’s “If I were a Boy”.

The PIT is still singing “Stuck like glue” the latest hit from Sugarland so I’m guessing that was her fav of the evening!
