I was a late bloomer when it came to being a Foo Fighters fan. Their style is pretty far away from what I usually listen to (pop, house, electronica, techno…). It wasn’t that I didn’t like their music; it’s just that I didn’t actively follow it.
That changed eventually: I have three Foo Fighters fans under my roof. One of them could even be considered a Super Fan: my nineteen-year-old, D.
When D became an Eagle Scout two years ago, I helped the troop’s Eagle committee draft some letters to high-profile people in hopes of getting D some “personal” congratulatory messages from people we wouldn’t ever run into on the street. The ONE person he wanted a letter from? Dave Grohl. Not that there’s anything wrong with that: I’m just demonstrating my son’s rabid fandom. (By the way, no luck on getting through to Dave. So Dave: If you read this, it’s not too late to make my son really happy! Call me! haha)
Actually, after seeing this video on Youtube, I sort of became a Super Fan of Dave Grohl, myself:
And then, my son showed me this AWESOME video (WHICH IS NSFW!!!) of Grohl kicking a fan out of the iTunes Festival (just a few weeks ago) for fighting, and then jumping right back into the song, where he left off. Loved it.
My son now owns every piece of music the Foo Fighters have released, and last month he became the lucky owner of their documentary, “Back and Forth”. It’s all about the journey of the band, from the death of Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain and Grohl’s subsequent feelings of not wanting to play drums in a band again but eventually wanting to start another band, as singer and guitarist, all the way up to present day. The film brings to light the decisions behind all of the changes in the band’s line-up, as well as their recording processes.
I found this film completely fascinating. So fascinating, in fact, that I could watch it again in the near future. (It’s not often you WANT to watch documentaries over again, is it?) Grohl and the other guys are fun to watch, their stories are entertaining, and the band’s history is colorful. What more could you ask for? Definitely check it out if you get a chance!
Welcome to Foo Fighter love!… and Thank You for a great article on the documentary
Thanks for reading it!

Their newest CD & the documetary made me flove them. I was not a fan before, but all the old stuff when taken in context with the new stuff, is so fresh and interesting to me.

They make the best music and videos. Dave Grohl is incredibly nice and cool to the fans. Strong handshake.
