Finally Friday Fiver

Yay! Friday!
Yay! Fiver!

It’s Mari, can you tell? You know, the Mama who encouraged Ri to bring her brainchild (the Fiver) from her own blog & share it on the Music Mamas? Ri is the calm one; I’m the one who tends to drink too much coffee and gets a wee bit overzealous and chatty. Sort of like the little guinea pig in a ball from that movie Bolt? Or maybe like when John Travolta and Eric Stoltz are trying to figure out how to revive Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction and they freak out?

Yeah, that’s me. And I often go off on tangents, too. Sorry!

So it’s been a while since I’ve posted a Fiver … at least I think it has. It sure feels like it! Ri has posted a few and I love when she does, because I love to play along with the Fiver. But today, I’m on it! So here is your Friday Fiver for this week, a la Mari.

You know the drill; listen to the tracks and leave your comments on your thoughts. If you recognize them? Shh, don’t tell! That’s part of the fun. Then come back on Sunday, when all will be revealed in the Sunday Scoop. Brilliant concept, innit?

So here goes:

    1. Starts off great. became background music quickly. Kinda forgettable but still nice.

    2. Nope. Had to hit the gong

    3. Favorite of the bunch. Awesomeness. Ahhh those harmonies. Sa-weet

    4. No sitting down for this one. Total groove for shaking bones!

    5. Liked it alright, I think I need to hear more. Need to be in the right mood for this one though

    1. I’m in complete agreement with Pook.
    2. Ahhhh. Well, I have to be in the mood for this…and that mood comes maybe twice a year. Not a fan of the “orchestra as support for rock band” movement as a rule. Committed the ultimate sacrilege when I threw away my husband’s old, holey, high school era concert tee from these guys, but it just had to be done.
    3. “I’ll be the bottles on the beaches, you’ll be the waves that wash them all ashore/we’ll make the most of every message”. Nice! Liked lots, but didn’t fall completely in love. May need to hear more.
    4. Well, hell yes! Liam and I just tore up the living room on this one! :)
    5. Dude. You put this one in just for me, didn’t you? LOL!! Love, of course!

Nice Fiver, Mari! Grazie, bella :)

    1. ditto the pook. Waste of good hand clap.
    2. Sounds like the soundtrack to my 13 year old son’s x-box games. Just say NO
    3. Hand Claps & harmonies are all good, didn’t love either.
    4. FAVORITE – horn section = love. now go “shake it like a bowl of soup”
    5. This one was like an irish punk/gypsy band – holy crap – It’s the Gypsy Travelers from that TLC show isn’t it – they are crazy. Not my favorite.

1- Like the simple Duane Eddy-styled riff. Chorus goes to some places you weren’t expecting. Can’t tell if the singer is a dude or a chick. More interesting than great but enjoyable anyway. Like the slow-down at the end. Cool tune.

2- Should probably recuse myself as I am in the audience for this recording. #fact One of the most amazing nights of music I’ve ever witnessed. Remembering that some of the songs I thought would benefit most from the pairing didn’t (One) and some songs I didn’t necessarily think would work just KICKED ASS (Master). Liked this (of course).

3- Cool, lazy guitar riff. Hate the hand claps. Harmonies remind me of Fleetwood Mac. Gets sort of annoying later in the song but I’m going to try to learn to play the guitar riff.

4- Hell yeah! Haven’t heard this in awhile. Sad that as I get older, the concept of having one’s backbone slip is less appealing than it was when I was a kid. Loved hearing this!

5- Holy crap, wasn’t ready for something this frantic at 5:32AM. Melody during the verses actually reminds me of Social Distortion’s “Bye Bye Baby”, the ‘saints & sinners’ stuff is a very Social D-esque theme as well. Liked this one, though I would like it better later in the day.
