This is your Sunday Scoop

Thanks for playing the Fiver! This is your big reveal. We’ve got something old, something new, a few things in between.

Track 1: Two Tons of Steel, Not That Lucky

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

A little four-piece band out of Texas (and a favorite of my friend Kristina’s), I first saw them live in Oklahoma and then saw them live again and then bought their music. Their recorded music is good but their live shows are great; they tour all over the world and I highly recommend you check them out. They do a version of The Ramones’ Sedated that will shock you and then rock you. I may have been the only person pogo-ing on the dance floor, but I was far from the only person on the floor.

Track 2: Paisley & Charlie, Radio Days

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

A free label download, love the 80s vibe on this one, even the dreamy synth, but the vocals are not my thing. A bit too soft & wispy but not so distracting that I turn off the song before it’s over.

Track 3: Outkast, Roses

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

I flove this song & I can’t stop singing it. So, here it is. Because sometimes, people will just be general asshats and this is a song that I would like to deliver to them in the form of a singing telegram. Is that a bad thing?

Track 4: Commander Cody, Hot Rod Lincoln

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

So, when i went all old-school & was talking about the mix tape & my awesome old car? This was my theme song. Yes, I drove a limping 1980 Chevy Impala and this is a song about a tricked out Lincoln, but I had to celebrate the crappiness of my car with a bit of sarcasm. My alternate song was War‘s Lowrider, and I bought some stick-on letters and had “Low Rider” taped to my bumper. Because that? Is how I rolled.

Track 5: Heavy Cream, Watusi

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

This was a free download, a Nashville-based garage punk band with more girls than guys. Love their sound, gritty and sassy, it’s right up my alley.
