Whatever happened to…. (2)

Hello, all! Kim here again. Thanks so much for all the wonderful comments on last week’s “Whatever happened to….” featuring The Prodigy! I’m back this week with another singer from the 90s. Let’s see if you remember her…

Meredith Brooks is undoubtedly best known for her hit single “Bitch,” from 1997. That track much sums up much of how I feel about myself, and I’m sure I’m not alone in that sentiment. Despite the title, the song was actually pretty positive in terms of self-acceptance and earned Brooks a platinum-selling album, two Grammy nominations, and an enviable gig opening for The Rolling Stones (which ultimately didn’t go very well for her in Latin America).

So what has she been up to in the years since?

A lot.

On the personal front, she’s been divorced, remarried, and adopted a child.

On the professional front, she’s toured with Lilith Fair; produced an album for Jennifer Love Hewitt; appeared on Vh1′s Divas Las Vegas, and yes, she’s continued to release music: three albums, one of which is a children’s album. And her single “Shine,” from 2004′s Shine, was chosen by Dr. Phil as the theme song for his show.

In addition to continuing with her own music, she also works as a producer, created a mentoring program, A.M.P., and writes The Kissing Booth blog. And apparently she’s doing something that really agrees with her, as she is 53 and still looks like she’s maybe 30, tops!

I wasn’t able to find much of her current music to share, but what I did find (Crazy)? Here it is, along with some of her older, but lesser-known stuff:

Nice! We were listening to this song in the car this weekend, my 9-year-old decided it was a good word for him to use, so we keyed in on every usage of it when we were driving. He was not impressed, but I was glad to hear it again. ;)

You explained that bitch means “Babe In Total Control of Herself,” right? On second thought; maybe the 9 y.o. doesn’t need to know that. Not everyone is okay with this word. Haha.
