Kim is a music and movie loving mama to two teen boys living in a tiny town in the south. While she loves all kinds of music (especially the hair bands, and all that OTHER cheesy 80s stuff, too!), her heart truly belongs to Metal and Outlaw Country. Her love of music began at an early age. For as long as she can remember, her parents always had music playing as a background to just about any and every family activity. And, long before MTV, she can vividly recall her Dad waking her up so she could watch The Midnight Special on Friday nights. Her fascination with the darker side of music began around age 7, when the babysitter's kid introduced her to Kiss. Much to her mother's chagrin, that was that. It's been a strange, fun ride ever since!

Whatever happened to….

Hello there, folks! Kim here, with a new and hopefully successful addition to the site, “Whatever happened to?” Wednesdays. The premise is exactly like it sounds: every Wednesday, I, or another Music Mama, will revisit a favorite band or artist from the distant or even recent past that we haven’t heard from in a while…

More fun than a barrel of Monkeys

More fun than just a barrel of monkeys would definitely be 100 Monkeys! 100 Monkeys is a five piece alterna-funk band out of Los Angeles in which musicians Jackson Rathbone, Ben Graupner, Ben Johnson, Lawrence “Uncle Larry” Abrams, and Jerad Anderson all take on vocal and instrumental duties on different songs in what they’ve dubbed…

Jessie and the Toy Boys

Anyone who knows me knows that I just don’t do pop music. Well, that’s sort of a lie. I actually do like a lot of songs that end up on the hot-hits-type stations, but the majority of them are by rock bands and musicians. But when the opportunity to view a tour diary webisode by…

Yes This Is A Cult

30 Seconds to Mars – January 28, 2011 – Atlanta, GA – Tabernacle Guests: Middle Class Rut (Click for larger)

If I was her, I’d say yes….

Since I absolutely suck at catchy titles, that’s the one you’re getting.  But the story that goes with it is oh-so cute! This boy that my sons go to school with needs a date for Junior Prom. And who has he asked? None other than Taylor Swift! And he’s asked her by cleverly re-working her…

I know we’re now barreling toward 2011 at warp speed – and it may even be AFTER 2011 before this gets published, but I’ve been working on it since the first part of December.  And every year when December rolls around, nostalgia for my favorite December in the history of all my Decembers gets the…

Everyone likes to dance to a happy song: Weezer 10/30, Atlanta, GA

I’ve been a huge fan of Alt-Punk-Pop and all-around PHENOMENAL band Weezer since 1994, when I first heard “Undone – The Sweater Song” and for various reasons, I’ve never been able to see them live. So a while back when my friend Laura suggested we go to the Halloween Weezer show in Atlanta (the last…

If you’ve ever wanted to be in a rock video

Now may be your chance! I grew up in the Hair Band era, and remember how crazy all the guys were about seeing Tawny Kitaen “shake her ass on the hood of Whitesnake’s car.” And I can’t vouch for all girls, but back then? I would have LOVED that much attention. Nowadays, I prefer writing…

The Vampire Diaries – Obsession never sounded so good

In the not-so-distant past, successful soundtracks were predominantly limited to the motion picture industry. However, since the late 90s, we’ve been seeing more and more popular TV soundtracks make an appearance on the charts. One such television show soundtrack that I feel no music fan should be without is Original Television Soundtrack: The Vampire Diaries….

Rockin’ Mama Rain Perry turns up the heat on Internal Combustion

Southern California native and indie singer/songwriter Rain Perry is perhaps best known for her ode to the atypical family, “Beautiful Tree”. Featured on her 2008 album Cinderblock Bookshelves, this song is more commonly known as the theme for The CW’s quirky hit family drama, Life Unexpected.
