Author Archives: Ri

Ri is the ringleader around here. If this were a band, she’d definitely be the stressed out, chainsmoking manager. (Even though she doesn’t smoke…anymore.) Now, don't let the name fool you – she’s no more music savvy than the next gal. (Don't let the icon fool you - she's not a blonde, either.) She just refuses to believe that her love for music need be put on the back burner while parenting a Pre-Schooler. The two should not be mutually exclusive. Prior to Music Savvy Momdom, Ri was gainfully employed in the corporate world as a notsomild-mannered Management Analyst. She sat at her desk with dual computers flashing multiple projects simultaneously, headphones on & music blaring. She often snarled when interrupted. Now a SAHM to Liam, her feisty three and a half year old…well, things haven’t changed much, really. Except spreadsheets have now become blogs and she doesn’t need the headphones – because the kiddo loves good music, too. Ri has a passion for writing, and has been told for years that she’s fairly humorous. Though she’s not yet realized her dream of being paid to combine the two, she has full confidence that one of you dear, dear readers will be in a position to change all that. Seriously. Make her an offer. In her own words, Ri describes her life thusly: “My interests are many and varied. Some of them include pie. My husband is wonderful, our kid rocks, and life is good…even when there’s no pie.”

Sunday Scoop: Songs Never Played Together

Man, was I “out there” when I picked the last Fiver or what?  Talk about all over the spectrum!  Ah, well – say what you will about the carnival ride of genres – you can’t say it was boring…

Two Old, Two New, One a Blend Just For You

Happy Friday, and welcome to the recently resurrected Fiver, wherein we post five tracks – totally blind – for your aural digestion, and impatiently await your unfettered reactions to them in the comments below.  Per the norm, we shall return again on Sunday with the Scoop – the “big reveal” that illuminates all.

Nothing to See Here

(No, seriously.  There’s nothing.)

I Don’t Want to Go On the Cart

Monty Python reference notwithstanding, allow me a moment of most grave sincerity to say that I have SO MISSED you people! Ri here…the one who dropped the ball, went into a cave and left this poor site to die a slow, miserable death. What has it been…two years ago, now? I’m pretty sure we missed…

Dreamers who Fake it in Wooden Ships while giving Candy to Dead Parrots

Track 1:  “Fake It” by Seether I love this song…not a little because I feel exactly this way on LOTS of days.  Plus, the music has just enough edge without trying too hard to be grating or angst-ridden or creepy.  Funny, I haven’t sought out more Seether – maybe because this song stands alone and…

Friday Fiver: Random Shuffle Edition

Ri here – yes, the one who never visits you anymore.  Apologies – here’s my attempt to make it up, with a quickie Fiver that I plucked at absolute and total random from the embarrassingly large amount of music and random files I have uploaded to my server…just in case I ever need them. No…

And Robert Plant sometimes even SOUNDS like Robert Plant!

Welcome to the Sunday Scoop, wherein we share with you the whos and whats of the most recent Friday Fiver!  Loved the comments on these – the more frequently we do this, the more I begin to predict what our “regulars” will and won’t like, and I’ll admit to sometimes even throwing one in just…

Friday Fiver on Thursday.

And, why not?  When I started the Friday Fiver, it’s not like there were any hard and fast rules…more like “guidelines”… So, I’m jumping back in this week to give Mari a break and mix things up a bit.  Got some brand spankin’ new stuff  folded in with older gems and as always, we’d love…

Mumford’s the Word…at Music Savvy Mom

Music Mama Ri here.  You all know by now (I’d imagine), that I’ve given birth to a number of websites.  The one you’re currently reading is  in “the family”, but it wasn’t the firstborn.  Nope – my eldest…my personal and secret favorite is my blog,  Music Savvy Mom. Of course, as a parent, I know…

More Mamas = More Music

“People!  I’ve had an epiphany!” – Rango.  And now, Music Mama Ri. Yes, much like the beloved cinematic Johnny Deppian lizard, I have come to a realization…a point at which that giant bingo ball tosser thing has abruptly stopped on the winning numbers…when the roulette wheel has ceased to spin, landing on 21 black –…
