Raise Your Glass To P!nk’s New Greatest Hits Album!

There are many artists out there who seem to have suddenly achieved their success practically overnight. You might, if you just “found” P!nk in the last couple of years or so as a result of her stunning live performances of “Sober” (on the 2009 VMAs) and “Glitter in the Air” (on the 2010 Grammys), or her very first number one hit (in the U.S.), “So What” (2008), think she’s one of those artists.

That’s where you’d be wrong. Believe it or not, P!nk has released five studio albums and has been around for ten years. Yep, you read that correctly. TEN.

I’ve been following her as a huge fan for almost the entire ten years. I first noticed her when she was a featured artist–along with Christina Aguilera, Mya, and Lil Kim–in the Missy Elliot-produced cover (for the “Moulin Rouge” soundtrack) of “Lady Marmalade”.

I immediately purchased her first CD, “Can’t Take Me Home”, and wore it out. A favorite? “You Make Me Sick”.

I bought “M!ssundaztood” too, and wore IT out. A favorite? Each and every song. What I loved about this album in particular is the autobiographical nature of the songs. From the angsty teen in “Don’t Let Me Get Me” to the scared child of divorce in “Family Portrait”, her writing was real, emotional, and beautiful. I saw her live in concert back in 2002, when she opened for Lenny Kravitz (a fabulous pairing!). She was only twenty-two at the time, and already a force to be reckoned with on stage.

Over the years, her writing has only gotten stronger, as has her voice. Along the way, P!nk became a role model for girls of all ages, infusing many of her songs with Girl Power, and spoke out against the ditzy hot messes that always seem to make the news (ahem, Paris, Lindsay…) in another one of my favorite songs, “Stupid Girls”.

P!nk’s fifth album, “Funhouse” was written when she and husband Carey Hart were going through some tumultuous times. P!nk has said that this album is her most vulnerable to date, as she totally poured herself into the writing. “So What”, which is about her and Hart’s separation, became her first number one hit (ever) in the U.S. Hart was in the video…

…and in fact, the two are back together, having never actually divorced.

After such a colored history, it seems like the perfect time to release a Greatest Hits album, right? And that’s what she’s doing: her album “Greatest Hits…So Far!!!” drops today. It’s got sixteen of those greatest hits (“You Make Me Sick”, however, is not included…WTH??), plus three new singles, including the anthem for the underdogs which is getting some heavy rotation these days, “Raise Your Glass”.

I could go on, but don’t worry, I hear you begging me to stop. I hope my enthusiasm for this pop powerhouse gives you a push to go check out her music if you’re not already a fan yourself!

I’ve been a fan of P!nk for many years, too. And I love “Raise Your Glass” so, so much. I probably listen to it at least once a day at this point.

Can’t wait to get the other new songs on the album!

I have loved P!nk since “Get This Party Started” and have enjoyed watching and listening to her flourish and grow. The most fun was the day my daughters asked me: “mom, you like P!nk?!” I Love “So What” and almost felt proud as a mother when I heard “Who Knew”.
